In the Brinell hardness test, a hardened steel or carbide ball of known diameter is pressed into the surface of the material under a specified load. After removing the load, the diameter of the indentation left on the material is measured. This measurement is used to calculate the Brinell Hardness Number (BHN), which indicates the material’s resistance to deformation and overall hardness.
